For the past several years, my research has focused on the mechanisms by which mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) may normalize alveolar epithelial permeability and fluid transport in animal and human models of acute lung injury (ALI), including a novel ex vivo perfused human lung preparation injured by endotoxin or bacteria, in collaboration with Michael Matthay, MD. The Molecular Logic of Cellular Signaling Systems Several computer labs and study spaces are run by UCSF Library and shared amongst all students at UCSF.

Craik Lab Research laboratory of Charles S. Craik, PhD We explore the roles and mechanisms of enzymes, receptors, and membrane proteins in complex biological processes using a vast, cross-disciplinary toolset, and we develop technologies to facilitate these studies.

We added a weekly hour-long lab-wide meeting on diversity, equity, and inclusion to facilitate education, discussion, planning, and follow-through of our own efforts. So far, these have included in-depth discussions on counteracting white supremacy culture in academia, building an inclusive and supportive lab culture for trainees, and collectively drafting a laboratory compact. Our lab is located on the 5th floor of Genentech Hall on the Mission Bay campus of UCSF, a vibrant academic community in close proximity to several close collaborators (e.g.
